About the Canonical URL Checker

Compare a current page address with its intended canonical address before placing the canonical link in HTML.

How to use it

  1. Enter the absolute page URL.
  2. Enter the absolute canonical URL.
  3. Compare exact value, protocol, case and trailing slash.

Comparison logic

The checker performs local string and URL component comparisons. It reports exact equality and highlights common differences without requesting either page.

Example

https://example.com/page and https://example.com/page/ differ only by a trailing slash, while an http canonical also receives an HTTPS warning.

Limitations

The tool cannot verify server redirects, rendered canonical tags, indexing state or which URL a search engine will ultimately select.
