Power-to-Weight Ratio Calculator

Normalize power and weight into comparable ratios.

About the Power-to-Weight Ratio Calculator

This calculator compares stated vehicle power with stated mass after normalizing their units.

How to use it

  1. Enter power and choose hp or kW.
  2. Enter weight and choose kg or lb.
  3. Calculate power-per-weight and weight-per-horsepower ratios.

Calculation logic

Power is converted between hp and kW, while weight is converted to kilograms and metric tons before division.

Example

A vehicle with 200 hp and 1,500 kg has about 133.33 hp per metric ton and 7.5 kg per horsepower.

Notes

The ratio does not predict acceleration, traction, handling or safe vehicle performance. Published power and weight definitions may differ.
