Solar Panel Calculator

Estimate a theoretical array size and panel count from daily energy use.

About the Solar Panel Calculator

This high-level estimator compares daily energy demand with peak sun hours, panel wattage and an assumed overall efficiency.

How to use it

  1. Enter average daily energy use in kWh.
  2. Enter representative peak sun hours and panel wattage.
  3. Enter an estimated system efficiency and calculate.

How it works

Required array kW equals daily kWh ÷ (peak sun hours × efficiency). Panel count divides that array wattage by panel wattage and rounds up.

Example

For 30 kWh per day, 5 peak sun hours and 80% efficiency, the estimate is 7.5 kW. With 400 W panels, that rounds up to 19 panels.

Notes

This is not a solar installation, structural, electrical, financial or code-compliance design. Weather, shading, orientation, inverter limits, losses and local rules require professional assessment.
