Plant Spacing Calculator

Estimate a rectangular planting layout using one consistent length unit.

About the Plant Spacing Calculator

Estimate how many complete rows and equally spaced planting positions fit inside a rectangular field.

How to use it

  1. Enter field length and width.
  2. Enter row spacing and within-row plant spacing using the same unit.
  3. Calculate complete rows, positions and density.

Calculation logic

Rows and positions use the whole-number floor of dimension divided by spacing. Density divides total estimated positions by field area in square meters.

Example

A 20 m by 10 m field with 0.75 m rows and 0.3 m plant spacing fits 13 complete rows and 66 complete positions per row.

Notes

The estimate excludes headlands, borders, irregular shapes, paths and equipment clearance.
