Potential Energy Calculator

Calculate idealized gravitational potential energy relative to a chosen height reference.

About the Potential Energy Calculator

This calculator estimates gravitational potential energy relative to a selected reference height.

How to use it

  1. Enter mass and its unit.
  2. Enter height and its unit.
  3. Keep or change the gravity value, then calculate.

Formula and logic

Potential energy uses PE = m × g × h after converting mass to kilograms and height to meters. Standard gravity defaults to 9.80665 m/s².

Example

A 10 kg mass at 5 m under standard gravity has approximately 490.3325 J of potential energy relative to the reference level.

Notes

The result depends on the chosen reference height and assumes a uniform gravitational field over that interval.
