Estimate grid energy and cost for a selected battery charge increase.
This estimator separates energy added to an EV battery from the larger grid energy needed after charging losses.
Battery energy equals capacity × charge-level increase. Grid energy divides battery energy by efficiency, and cost equals grid energy × electricity price.
Charging a 75 kWh battery from 20% to 80% adds 45 kWh. At 90% efficiency, approximately 50 kWh comes from the grid.
Actual energy and cost vary with the vehicle, charger, battery temperature, battery management, session fees and charging losses.
