Pipe Flow Calculator

Estimate ideal volumetric flow using a circular area and entered average velocity.

About the Pipe Flow Calculator

Apply a stated average velocity to the cross-sectional area of a circular pipe.

How to use it

  1. Enter internal pipe diameter and unit.
  2. Enter average flow velocity and unit.
  3. Calculate ideal volumetric flow.

Formula

Area equals pi times radius squared, and flow Q equals area times average velocity.

Example

A 0.1 m diameter at 2 m/s gives about 0.0157 m³/s or 15.7 L/s.

Notes

This ideal estimate excludes friction, roughness, fittings, pressure loss, viscosity and flow-profile effects.
