Golden Ratio Calculator

Calculate paired values using phi or split a total into golden-ratio proportions.

About the Golden Ratio Calculator

Use phi as a numerical proportion for layout experiments and measurement comparisons.

How to use it

  1. Enter a positive known value.
  2. Choose whether it is the smaller value, larger value or total.
  3. Calculate the paired dimensions and percentage split.

Formula

Phi is approximately 1.61803398875. Larger equals smaller times phi, while smaller equals larger divided by phi.

Example

Splitting 100 gives approximately 61.80 and 38.20.

Notes

The ratio is an optional composition aid, not a rule for effective design.
