Watts to Amps Calculator

Estimate current from power, voltage and an optional single-phase AC power factor.

About the Watts to Amps Calculator

This calculator estimates current from real power and voltage for DC or a simplified single-phase AC case.

How to use it

  1. Enter power in watts and voltage in volts.
  2. Choose DC or single-phase AC.
  3. For AC, enter the assumed power factor, then calculate.

How it works

DC current uses I = P ÷ V. The single-phase AC estimate uses I = P ÷ (V × PF).

Example

A 1,200 W DC load at 120 V corresponds to 10 A in the idealized calculation.

Notes

This simplified estimate does not account for startup current, waveform, phase configuration, losses or installation requirements.
