Frequency Calculator

Calculate frequency from wave speed and wavelength with f = v ÷ λ.

About the Frequency Calculator

This calculator finds the number of wave cycles per second from propagation speed and wavelength.

How to use it

  1. Enter wave speed and select its unit.
  2. Enter wavelength and choose m, cm or mm.
  3. Calculate to view frequency in Hz, kHz and MHz.

Formula and logic

Frequency is f = v ÷ λ after converting wave speed to meters per second and wavelength to meters.

Example

A wave speed of 343 m/s and wavelength of 0.343 m gives a frequency of 1,000 Hz.

Notes

The formula assumes a consistent propagation speed and wavelength for the medium and conditions under study.
