Turbine Efficiency Calculator

Compare entered output power with theoretical hydraulic power.

About the Turbine Efficiency Calculator

Calculate an arithmetic efficiency ratio from entered power, flow and head.

How to use it

  1. Enter measured output power and unit.
  2. Enter water flow and head with units.
  3. Calculate theoretical hydraulic power and efficiency.

Formula

Efficiency equals output power divided by water density times gravity times flow times head, multiplied by 100.

Example

75 kW output against about 98.07 kW theoretical hydraulic power gives roughly 76.48%.

Notes

Measurement uncertainty, losses, operating point and generator efficiency require professional analysis beyond this calculator.
