About the Compost Volume Calculator
Estimate the geometric volume of a rectangular compost pile without providing material-mixing guidance.
Formula
Initial volume equals length times width times height. Estimated finished volume multiplies initial volume by one minus the entered reduction percentage.
Example
A 2 m by 1.5 m by 1 m rectangular pile has an initial volume of 3 m³; a stated 40% reduction leaves 1.8 m³.
Notes
Real piles are rarely perfect rectangular prisms, and settling varies by material, moisture and time. The percentage is supplied by the user rather than recommended by this tool.
