Scale batter by comparing the top areas of two cake pans.
Compare pan surface areas using dimensions measured in one consistent unit.
Round area is pi times radius squared; square and rectangle areas use side squared or length times width. Scale factor is new area divided by original area.
Moving from an 8-inch round pan to a 10-inch round pan gives an area factor of 1.5625.
The calculation compares top area only and does not model pan depth, fill level, bake time or overflow.
