Transfer formula
The size is converted to MB and the speed to MB/s. Time in seconds equals data MB divided by effective MB/s; eight bits equal one byte.
Example
Transferring 100 GB over a 100 Mbps link has an ideal duration of 8,000 seconds, or about 2.22 hours.
Network note
The result assumes sustained throughput without protocol overhead, congestion, latency or retries. Decimal base 1000 is used for size and rate prefixes.
